Jaro is rushing ahead!

An account of the Les Sables - Acores - Les Sables regatta

After 48 hours of the race and a night storm, the leader is sailing home and Jaro is moving ahead. The stake of the race is stretching and the first results of tactical decisions can already be seen. Because of a short storm during the night four boats had to stop the race, thus up till now 7 boats have withdrawn from the regatta. Among them is Didier Le Vourch aboard Vecteur Plus - the expected winner of the race. The cause of his withdrawal: a broken thumb.

The "north" group, whose leader was Clay Burkhalter (Acadia), lost some distance. The "south" group also got divided. The competitors who tried to stick to the optimal route towards Azory gained the most. Fortunately, Jaro was in this group.

(From Les Sables) Marek "Goły" Gałkiewicz on Capt. Jarosław Kaczorowski's sailing in the AZAB regatta:

August 1, 2006

At night Andraz Mihelin (Adria Mobil Too) decidedly took the lead being eight miles before Peter Laureysansem (Ecover), ranked second.

Now the wind force is approximately 15-20 kn per NW, waves after the storm are pretty high, up to 4 meters , the wind direction favors prototype boats with a large stern like Allianz.pl, so we are optimistic about the future.

According to the latest forecast, the wind force is to decrease, then rise and change its direction 10 degrees West before Cap Finistere. The lead is pretty much defined, other boats are merely within a few miles from one another.

Now the competitors are thinking what strategy they should choose. The next 24 hours will reveal the leader of the Biscay Bay , who shall gain the opportunity to get away from the group and find himself in a zone of constant wind direction over the Atlantic .

Greetings from Les Sables,
Marek "Goły" Gałkiewicz
